Women-led CSOs Network demands justice for Yobe woman killed by husband

The Women-led Civil Society Organisations Network of Yobe State has unequivocally condemned the heinous murder of Ammi Adamu Mamman who was killed by her 43-year-old husband, Abubakar Musa, on Thursday, 4 January 2024 in Damaturu, Yobe State.

The suspect, Abubakar Musa, has been apprehended by the police in connection with the crime.

According to a press statement signed by Barrister Altine Ibrahim, Chairperson Women-led Civil Society Organizations Network, Yobe State, WOLNY was informed of the tragic incident that occurred and “we were deeply troubled by the details surrounding the death of Ammi Adamu, who is a volunteer to one of our member organisations.

“While we are aware that the alleged perpetrator, Abubakar Musa has already been apprehended, the distressing and traumatic information indicates that Ammi was sleeping beside her husband when she was violently attacked and stabbed on the neck with a sharp object, resulting in her death.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones while praying for God to grant them the strength to bear the irreversible loss and stand with them in seeking justice for her as the blood of Ammi shall not flow in vain.

“The Women-led Civil Society Network in Yobe State, support the current investigation launched by the security agencies in the state on Ammi’s murder. While urging the authorities to leave no stone unturned to ensure the perpetrator of this act faces the full wrath of the law, women groups in the state remain committed and vigilant.

“Additionally, we have noted with increasing voices and concerns raised by our membership, as well as by numerous women groups in the state, regarding the safety and security of women in their own homes. It is indeed a cause for grave concern if a woman is not safe even while asleep on her own bed, and her husband, who in our society is seen as a roof and a major source of protection for the family is the alleged perpetrator.

“In light of these happening, we call upon all civil society organisations, alongside professional bodies within the state and across the federation to amplify their voices on this matter and to ensure it receives the widespread publicity as it duly deserves. It is crucial that such atrocities are brought to the forefront to prevent further occurrences and to protect the rights and well-being of women in our society.

“We are determined to keep this matter on the limelight and to sustain advocacy until justice for late Ammi Adamu Mamman is fully served, ‘’the statement said.
