Kano police arrest thugs for disrupting election process

The Kano State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough by apprehending dozens of thugs reportedly hired to sabotage the ongoing rerun election procedure across various areas in the state.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, disclosed the details to journalists in Kano on Saturday, revealing that the arrested individuals were found in possession of arms and were allegedly commissioned by a political candidate contesting in the election.

The arrests took place in the Kunchi/Tsanyawa area, one of the constituencies in Kano State where the rerun election is being conducted.

“We encountered a broken-down truck by the roadside, accompanied by a large group of people. Initially, they tried to mislead us by claiming that the vehicle had run out of fuel. However, upon closer scrutiny, we discovered their possession of arms.

“Abdulrazaq Muhammad, alias Mai Salati, from Kano Municipal, informed us that one Gwarmai, a contestant in the area, had summoned them.

“We will interview Gwarmai to confirm his candidacy and the reasons for inviting them to the area.

“We suspect that they were lurking in the bush to lay an ambush on the electoral officers while en route with the election results,” CP Gumel explained.

This development signifies a pivotal step towards ensuring the integrity and fairness of the electoral process in Kano State.
