Boko Haram terrorists attack election collation centre in Yobe, kill 2 people
The Yobe State Government has confirmed an attack by Boko Haram terrorists on election collation centre at Kukareta along Damaturu-Maiduguri Road, about 20 kilometres from Damaturu, leading to the death of two people.
According to the State Security Adviser, Major-General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), the attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, February 4 during collation of results for the Yobe East Senatorial bye-election held on Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to reports, the house of the District Head of Kukareta community was burnt down by the Boko Haram insurgents who launched deadly attack on the election collation centre.
Major-General Abdulsalam (Rtd) has further assured residents of the Yobe State capital that Damaturu is safe.
