NiMet predicts 3-day dust haze from Tuesday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast for the upcoming week, predicting the prevalence of dust haze across the country from Tuesday to Thursday.
NiMet’s outlook, released in Abuja, indicates that thick dust haze is expected to significantly reduce horizontal visibility to 1km or less in the northern region on Tuesday.
The forecast also mentions moderate dust haze with a horizontal visibility range of 1km to 3km, as well as localised visibility of less than or equal to 1km, in the North Central and Southern regions during the mentioned period.

For Wednesday, NiMet anticipates a continuation of thick dust haze with reduced horizontal visibility in the northern and North Central states, while the Inland and coastal areas of the South are expected to experience moderate dust haze with varying visibility.
Looking ahead to Thursday, the agency foresees a persistence of thick to moderate dust haze in the North and North Central regions, with similar conditions in the Inland region of the South. NiMet also highlights the possibility of early morning mist or fog patches along the coastal areas, followed by a hazy atmosphere later in the day.
As the dust particles are in suspension, NiMet advises the use of face masks, especially for individuals with respiratory issues.
Additionally, they recommend wearing warm clothing at night, paying special attention to one’s skin, eyes, and lips, and moisturizing as much as possible.
Furthermore, the agency advises airline operators to stay informed about updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
