Kebbi CSOs rebuke Senate President over alleged N30bn increment for state govs.

Story from Haruna USMAN, Birnin Kebbi

Following claims by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, that the federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has added N30billion on the monthly federal allocations to the 36 state governors to mitigate the suffering of poor Nigerians caused by the removal of fuel subsidy, some Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) operating in Kebbi State under the aegis ‘Association for Peace and Good Governance’, has rebuked Akpabio for making an unverified statement.

A statement by the General Secretary of the organisation, Comrade Usman Muhammed Anche, said though the Senate President backtracked by saying the information was unverified, a statement from highly placed person like the senate president remains an administrative and policy statement.

The statement added that they believe both of them on the counter claim though only one governor came out to debunk the statement.

The organisation urged the federal government to devise other measures in alleviating the suffering of poor masses instead of going through state governors as it has failed to yield positive results when it was deployed by the past administration of Muhammadu Buhari.

However, the group noted that the Senate President also commended some senators who went back to assist their constituents in these trying times.

Similarly, the CSOs commended the senators representing Kebbi Central, Senator Adamu Aliero, and Kebbi North, Dr Yahya Abdullahi, for empowering their constituents with tricycles, tailoring machines and other palliatives to mitigate the removal of fuel subsidy.

“We are calling on President Tinubu to return subsidy and to step down infrastructural projects, so as to help poor people out of the present economic quagmire,” they said.
