Drama as scammers hack Gov Otu’s phone number
Hackers have taken control of one of the phone numbers connected to Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, with intentions to extort money from innocent individuals, as confirmed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Ogbeche.
In a statement released to News Point Nigeria on Sunday, Ogbeche urged the public to ignore any unexpected messages requesting financial help, supposedly from the governor.
“There has been concern in various communities about unsolicited messages allegedly coming from Governor Bassey Otu, asking for financial assistance,” Ogbeche expressed.

He further cautioned, “Please disregard any such messages that claim to be from the governor.”
The breach of one of the governor’s mobile numbers by sophisticated criminals occurred in the early hours of Sunday, February 11, 2024, and these hackers have since used the compromised number to further their illicit activities aimed at defrauding unsuspecting individuals. Ogbeche advised the public not to fall victim to such deceitful tactics.
Assuring the public, Ogbeche stated, “The breached number has been secured, and the appropriate security agencies are actively working to apprehend those responsible for this reprehensible act.”
