FG fires Tinubu’s Special Investigator Jim Obazee

CBN Special Investigator Jim Obazee stripped of powers, ordered to return government property in his possession.

Neptune Prime has gathered that Jim Obazee, the Special Investigator appointed by President Bola Tinubu to examine the tenure of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele, has been fired and all his powers revoked.

The decision was made after alleged incidents of intimidation even after his official assignment had ended.

According to sources, there were complaints from officials at the CBN and various commercial banks about undue intimidation and a perceived witch-hunt by Obazee’s team that continued beyond their mandate.

President Tinubu initially appointed Mr. Obazee, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), to conduct a special investigation into the CBN.

The report submitted by Obazee’s team implicated the former CBN governor in financial mismanagement and fraud.

Upon the expiration of the investigation on December 1, 2023, Obazee’s team reportedly continued unauthorised activities, prompting the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to intervene.

Obazee was instructed to return all government property and cease all operations.

“Jim Obazee and his team were summoned on Friday by Office of the National Security Adviser and was asked to return all government property in his possession. This includes the official vehicles given to him to aid his operations and others.

“He was stripped of all his powers and the presidential mandate as the CBN investigator so to speak,” the source disclosed.

The ONSA’s Head of Strategic Communication, Zakari U. Mijinyawa, did not respond to calls at the time of filing this report.
