Governor Buni takes action against hoarding of grains by merchants

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has called for an emergency meeting with the 17 local government chairmen to address concerns about food security amidst rising prices of grains and essential commodities in the state.
In a statement issued by Abdullahi Bego, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information, and Culture, it was emphasized that the state government condemns the practice of hoarding grains and essential commodities, which leads to artificial scarcity and price inflation in the market.
The meeting focused on addressing the cost of living crisis in Yobe State and the country at large, proposing measures to tackle the issue effectively. The state government aims to combat food scarcity and high prices caused by bulk purchases of grains from Yobe’s markets by individuals transporting them outside the borders of the nation. Collaboration with security agencies is planned to discourage such practices.

Additionally, the government plans to monitor and prevent hoarding of grains and essential commodities by businessmen and middlemen. Stringent measures will be put in place to closely observe bulk purchases from Yobe’s markets to prevent artificial scarcity.
Abdullahi Bego outlined, “Concrete measures will be implemented shortly to alleviate the impact of rising food prices for the people of Yobe State. Stakeholders in each local government area will also convene to address food security challenges and propose solutions.”
Governor Buni urged citizens to continue praying for divine intervention to overcome the current challenges facing the country.
