How house help in Lagos kidnapped, sold employer’s baby for N800,000

The Lagos State Police Command has located a baby who was kidnapped by a domestic worker in the Somolu area of the state since February 3.

Reports indicate that a couple’s child was allegedly taken by their housemaid named Ruth around 1 am on February 3.

The house help, Ruth, was later found in Ikorodu around 1 pm on the same day, but the baby was not in her possession. She claimed to have left the baby at home.

Following further questioning by the police, Ruth confessed that she sold the baby for N800,000.

In an update on Monday, Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson of the Lagos Police Command, announced that the baby was found at Alade Market, Shomolu.

The police are now working to apprehend the buyer, who is currently at large.

“Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu. Baby was promptly rescued by the police.

“The baby has since been handed over to her parents after they positively identified her. Efforts are still on to apprehend the buyer who is currently on the run,” he said.
