Ivory Coast emerges victorious over Nigeria in AFCON final
In a thrilling final match of the Africa Cup of Nations 2023, the Elephants of Ivory Coast emerged victorious over the Super Eagles of Nigeria with a score of 2-1.
Although Ivory Coast dominated possession throughout the game, it was Nigeria who struck first in the 38th minute with a powerful header from William Troost-Ekong, taking advantage of a poorly cleared corner.

Troost-Ekong, the centre-back and captain, showcased his scoring prowess with his third goal of the tournament, surpassing his total goals scored at Watford over three seasons.
Ivory Coast fought back and equalised in the 62nd minute, thanks to Franck Kessie’s unmarked header off a corner from Gradel. The home team then took the lead in the 81st minute, igniting celebrations as Sebastien Haller deftly redirected Simon Adingra’s cross into the net.
This victory marks a momentous occasion for Ivory Coast, while the Super Eagles of Nigeria have experienced their fair share of disappointment in Afcon finals past.
