More casualties as armed criminals attack Plateau LG

Heavily armed criminals suspected to be herdsmen have attacked Miango district in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, claiming the lives of four individuals.

Davidson Malison, the national publicity secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, revealed that the gunmen attacked the Nkienzha community in Rigwe Chiefdom on Monday, resulting in three fatalities and one individual sustaining severe injuries from machete wounds, currently undergoing medical treatment.

A separate attack in Teegbe village on Saturday resulted in another tragic death and a car ambush occurred on Friday, leading to a vehicle being burnt and one person sustaining injuries.

The Rigwe nation’s leadership, represented by the traditional council and development association, condemned the escalating violence as cruel and barbaric.

The paramount ruler of Rigwe Chiefdom, Reverend Ronku Aka, and Irigwe Development Association President, Robert Ashi, urge security agencies to promptly arrest and prosecute the culprits responsible for these heinous crimes.

Unfortunately, the recent wave of violence in Plateau State has claimed many lives, with over 200 individuals killed on Christmas Eve in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi local government areas.

Numerous homes and farmlands were destroyed in these attacks, leaving scores dead and injured.

Unfortunately, the violence persisted into the New Year, with over 30 individuals killed and multiple houses set ablaze in Kwahaslalek village in Mangu Local Government Area in January.

The attacks were so severe that Governor Caleb Mutfwang imposed a 24-hour curfew on the affected Local Government Area to restore peace and security.
