NASU, SSANU issue 7-day ultimatum to FG over withheld salaries

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions NASU and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) have given the federal government a seven-day ultimatum to pay the four months’ withheld salaries or face union action.

Despite President Bola Tinubu’s directive to pay public university workers, which the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) received, NASU and SSANU express concern over the non-payment to the non-teaching staff. Tensions rise as the unions warn of potential disruption in the university sector if the government does not comply.

In a joint statement, NASU and SSANU’s Joint Action Committee (JAC), signed by NASU’s General Secretary, Comrade Peters Adeyemi, and SSANU’s President, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, states, “The Federal Government has remained quiet, and it seems as if the Federal Government is taking our maturity for granted.”

The statement emphasizes the unions’ efforts to maintain peace and calls on the government to address the issue within seven days. It warns that failure to do so may lead to lawful and stringent decisions by the unions, potentially halting administrative and corporate governance in the university sector.
