Boko Haram attacks military base in Yobe, kills soldier

In an assault believed to be orchestrated by Boko Haram insurgents, a military base in Gujba town, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, was attacked around midnight on Saturday, March 23.

The attack resulted in the tragic death of a soldier and the destruction of a military patrol vehicle. Yobe State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident, stating that troops and CJTF engaged the assailants in response to the attack.

According to reliable local sources, the insurgents arrived in Gujba town shortly after midnight, firing indiscriminately before launching an assault on the military base. Despite the chaos, residents managed to flee to the surrounding bushes for safety.

Thankfully, the attackers did not harm civilians or loot essential stores, focusing solely on the military base where they targeted patrol vehicles and claimed the life of a soldier.

This recent attack adds to the ongoing security challenges in the region, following the loss of 15 soldiers during a communal clash in Delta State. The casualties included two Majors, one Captain, and 12 soldiers, who lost their lives while responding to a distress call amid clashes between Okuama and Okoloba communities in the state.

The incident underscores the persistent threat posed by insurgent groups like Boko Haram, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and concerted efforts to ensure the safety and security of affected communities.
