Eight suspects apprehended in connection with killing of 6 policemen

Eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of six policemen in the Ohoro Forest of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State.

The officers, including Inspector Abe Olubunmi (IRT), Inspector Friday Irorere, Sergeant Kuden Elisha, Sergeant Akpan Aniette, Sergeant Ayere Paul, and Sergeant Ejemito Friday, were ambushed on February 23 while on a rescue mission.

The announcement of the arrests was made by Force spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Saturday. Adejobi stated that the suspects are currently in custody and are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

He noted that intensive investigative efforts led to the initial arrest of five suspects shortly after the incident, with an additional three suspects apprehended at different locations.

Adejobi emphasized the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring that all those responsible for such reprehensible acts are swiftly brought to justice. He assured the public that the suspects will be prosecuted with credible evidence once the investigations are concluded.

The Nigeria Police Force expressed deep sorrow over the violent attack on its officers, who were diligently performing their duty to protect and serve the community. The Force extended condolences to the families of the fallen officers during this challenging time.

Delta State has experienced a series of brutal attacks on security operatives, with the most recent being the ambush and murder of 17 Nigerian Army personnel.

The tragic incident occurred on March 14, when military operatives, including a commanding officer and other personnel, were killed during a peace mission to Okuama and Okoloba communities in the area.

The murder of the soldiers has elicited widespread condemnation, with President Tinubu describing it as an attack on the nation. Security agencies have been directed to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators of the attack.

At a funeral ceremony held for the slain soldiers, President Tinubu, along with governors, federal lawmakers, military leaders, and dignitaries, paid their final respects to the fallen heroes. The Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Air Staff, and Chief of Naval Staff were among those present to honor the deceased military personnel.

In conclusion, the Nigeria Police Force reiterated its determination to bring all those involved in the tragic incident to justice, ensuring that none of the perpetrators evade punishment.
