Lawmaker threatens legal action against Air Peace over flight disruptions

Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Ahmed, a member representing Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, has issued a stern warning to Air Peace Limited, threatening legal recourse due to flight irregularities.

Ahmed revealed that despite paying approximately N12 million for a business class ticket from Malam Aminu Kano International Airport to Jeddah, Air Peace downgraded his seat to economy class for a flight intended for lesser hajj.

The scheduled departure on March 27, 2024, was marred by delays, exacerbating Ahmed’s frustration with the airline’s alleged mistreatment of passengers.

Expressing his discontent, Ahmed emphasized that his planned legal action aims to address the widespread mistreatment endured by passengers nationwide, citing a pattern of flight disruptions and schedule changes without prior notification.

Furthermore, Ahmed underscored the need for accountability within the aviation sector, asserting that errant airlines like Air Peace should face appropriate sanctions.

He vowed to collaborate with fellow legislators to ensure stringent measures are implemented, signaling a departure from leniency towards airline misconduct.

Ahmed’s call for action extends beyond personal grievances, as he urged regulatory bodies like the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Federal Government to intervene on behalf of affected passengers and enforce accountability within the industry.

In solidarity with Ahmed’s stance, affected passengers like Ibrahim Shehu echoed the demand for intervention, emphasizing the need to recover funds and curb the mistreatment of travelers by airlines operating in Nigeria.

As discontent grows among passengers, Ahmed’s threat of legal action against Air Peace underscores a broader push for accountability and improved service standards within the Nigerian aviation sector.
