Abuja residents hijack trucks in Dei Dei, loot food items (Video)

Residents are reportedly looting food stuffs from a truck at the Dei Dei axis of Abuja.

A video posted by Imran Muhammad on X (formerly Twitter) showed people carrying sacks of maize, rice and other food stuffs and running away with it.

A video narrator said the trucks carrying the foods items were hijacked on Monday, 4 March 2024 and are palliatives from the government to alleviate hunger.

Speaking in the video, a man said they are looting the items because of hunger and called the grains ‘government palliatives.’

This incident is coming a day after residents looted a warehouse belonging to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Department of Agriculture in the Tasha area of Abuja.

On Monday, the FCT Police Command said 15 suspects, including two local security guards have been arrested over the incident.

There have been protests and looting of food stuffs from trucks since the removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu, which has made the nation’s inflation figures to rise and caused economic hardship and hunger in the country.
