The Clarehil Literacy Development Foundation, spearheaded by the visionary Oge Nwabunike, is making a profound impact with its commitment to enhancing the lives of marginalised individuals and fostering a love for learning amongst disadvantaged children. Since its inception in 2020, this NGO has been dedicated to uplifting vulnerable communities through educational healthcare and empowerment initiatives.
With a mission centered on empowering and advocating for those in need, the Clarehil Literacy Foundation has already achieved notable success in its endeavors.
Neptune Prime delves into an exclusive interview with Oge Nwabunike, shedding light on her inspiring journey and the transformative work carried out by the NGO.
Neptune Prime: What inspired you to start the Foundation (NGO) and what is its mission?
Oge Nwabunike: Absolutely. The inspiration behind Foundation stems from a deep-rooted desire to uplift the disadvantaged in our society. Witnessing the struggles faced by many, especially vulnerable children and widows, ignited a passion within me to make a tangible difference.
Our mission is clear: to improve the lives of the marginalised and cultivate a culture of literacy and empowerment, ultimately securing a sustainable future for all.

NP: What projects has the Foundation done to help disadvantaged people?
Oge: We’ve helped abandoned elderly individuals, supported kids in low-income areas during the pandemic, and empowered widows with economic projects. We also give medical care and emotional support to those in need.
NP: How has the Foundation adapted during the COVID-19 pandemic?
Oge: The COVID-19 pandemic presented unprecedented challenges, but the Foundation remained steadfast in its commitment to serving the vulnerable. We adapted our programs by offering virtual educational support, distributing essential supplies, and ensuring the safety of our beneficiaries and volunteers. Flexibility and innovation were key in navigating these challenging times while continuing to make a positive impact.
NP: Can you share a particularly impactful story or moment from your experiences working with vulnerable communities?
Oge: One particularly impactful moment was when we supported a young man battling jaw cancer, Victor Sunday Aleke, in Emene Enugu State. Witnessing his resilience and seeing the impact of our assistance on his well-being reinforced the importance of our mission. Also, floods victims at Ifite Ogwari, we assist them with free medical treatment, support the children with relief materials and educational support. We visited the physically challenged widow Mrs Stella Uzoigwe st Oji River Enugu , spent time cooked and ate together with her to show her love and care.
We also provide assistance to St. Joseph Home of the Elderly and Handicap in Uruagu Nnewi. Our support includes providing food items and ensuring the cleanliness of their facilities by regularly maintaining their toilets and environment using Clarehil cleaning agents, Germicide, and toilet cleaner. Our priority is to ensure the health and well-being of the residents.
It’s moments like these that fuel our determination to continue our work and make a difference in the lives of those in need.
NP What are the Foundation long-term goals?
Oge: Foundation (NGO) is committed to expanding its reach and impact in the coming years. We aspire to establish sustainable programs that promote long-term empowerment and support for the most vulnerable. Additionally, we aim to foster greater collaboration with local communities and stakeholders to ensure the continued success and sustainability of our initiatives.
NP: How does the Foundation work with local communities and stakeholders?
Oge: Collaboration is at the heart of the Foundations approach. We actively engage with local communities and stakeholders to understand their needs and priorities, ensuring that our initiatives are relevant and sustainable. By fostering partnerships and leveraging collective resources, we maximize our impact and create lasting change.
NP: Could you tell us about any upcoming projects or events that Foundation has planned to further its mission of empowerment and support for the most vulnerable?
Oge: We’re excited to announce an upcoming event focusing on home health care services for low-income communities.
This event will offer free health screenings, consultations, educational workshops, and valuable resources to promote health and well-being. We also plan to organise a book drive this Easter in the low income communities to foster learning and inculcate literacy culture in our children.
Our goal is to ensure that everyone, regardless of their financial situation, has access to the support and information they need to thrive.
