Gov. Sani confirms death of teacher abducted with Kaduna schoolchildren

A tragic update on the abduction of a teacher alongside the Kuriga schoolchildren in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State has been confirmed by the state Governor, Senator Uba Sani.

The teacher, who was among those taken by the terrorists, tragically passed away while in captivity.

Governor Sani revealed during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday’s Politics program that, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the military and local authorities from neighboring Zamfara State, all the abducted schoolchildren have been successfully rescued.

The Kuriga schoolchildren were kidnapped from Government Secondary and Primary Schools in Kuriga 1, Chikun LGA, on March 7, 2024, and endured 17 days in captivity.

Despite the children’s safe return, Governor Sani expressed deep sorrow over the teacher’s inability to survive due to health complications while being held captive.

“It’s only one person that has not returned, and that is the teacher. That is the fact of the matter, but all of the 137 children are safely back.

“We had the unfortunate incident that the teacher couldn’t make it because he had some complications; he was sick — that was the report we got from the military and the security agencies but the rest of the children, all of them are back with us,” he said.

However, the rescued 137 schoolchildren had arrived in the state capital and were being kept in an undisclosed medical facility in the state.
