Governor Buni pledges increased accountability as Yobe emerges best State in Substantial Audit Efficacy Index

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has pledged to enhance accountability and transparency in governance to ensure efficient service delivery and proper utilisation of resources.

This commitment comes in response to Yobe State securing the top spot in the 2023 Subnational Audit Efficacy Index report, which evaluates accountability and transparency in the management of public funds.

“The state government, through the Fiscal Responsibility Board, instituted reforms in public finance which has translated into worthy investments, accountability and transparency in government transactions.

“I am glad to say that our audit department and institutions like the Bureau for Public Procurement are independent and ensure transparency and accountability of government expenditure, which has placed the state above board.

“We will continue to strengthen these institutions to promote accountability and transparency in every expenditure of public funds,” Gov. Buni said.

The Paradigm Leadership Support Initiative (PLSI), an esteemed civil society organisation known for monitoring public accountability and transparency in expenditure, recognised Yobe and Ekiti states as the top performers among the 36 states in the country.

The assessment by PLSI considered various factors such as value for public funds, audit legal framework, publication of annual reports, and the oversight functions of legislative committees.

Yobe State’s achievement of securing the first position in the 2023 Subnational Audit Efficacy Index report builds on its success of attaining the second position in 2022, highlighting its unwavering commitment to promoting accountability and transparency in governance and financial management.
