Kannywood actress Amal Umar faces charges of alleged bribery
Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano
A Kannywood actress identified as Amal Umar was arraigned before Magistrate Court No. 24 in Gyadi-Gyadi area of Kano metropolis in relation to a case involving an alleged attempt to bribe a law enforcement officer.
The actress stands accused of offering N250,000 as a bribe to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Salisu Bujama of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Zone 1 headquarters in Kano State, in an effort to halt an investigation into financial misappropriation allegedly committed by her boyfriend, Ramadan Inuwa.
The incident originated from a complaint filed by Alhaji Yusuf Adamu through his lawyer, H.I. Dederi, to Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Umar Mohd Sanda on August 18, 2022.
The complaint outlined allegations of financial misconduct by Ramadan Inuwa, with N40 million reportedly misappropriated in his cell phone business.
Following a subsequent police investigation, it was discovered that N13 million had been transferred to Amal Umar’s bank account by Inuwa.

Despite being granted bail after questioning, the actress was prohibited from leaving in a vehicle allegedly purchased by her boyfriend.
Amal admitted that the funds in her bank account belonged to Inuwa, affirming that N8 million had been transferred, not the full amount reported.
After seeking legal redress by approaching the High Court of Kano State, a decision was made to temporarily halt further police investigations against her.
During this time, Amal was alleged to have attempted to bribe ASP Salisu Bujama, a move intercepted by the police, resulting in her subsequent arraignment before the Magistrate’s Court.
The charges brought against the Kannywood actress fall under Section 118 of the Penal Code, which explicitly prohibits bribery of police officers.
