Kano Gov appoints Kwankwaso’s son, dismissed official who threatened tribunal judges as commissioner nominees
Kano State Governor, Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf, has put forward the names of Mustapha Rabi’u Kwankwaso, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, and two others to the State Assembly for approval as commissioners.
In a statement during the plenary on Tuesday, Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Falgore, confirmed the list comprising four individuals designated for positions on the state executive council.
The Speaker mentioned that the screening and approval process of the nominees is expected to commence early next week.
The four nominees include Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, Usman Shehu Aliyu, Abduljabbar Garko, and Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Mustapha Kwankwaso is the son of former Kano governor, ex-minister of defence, former Senator representing Kano Central, and the presumed 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Adamu Kibiya, was former commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, who was dismissed six months ago for making threats against judges of the state’s governorship electoral petition tribunal.

Kibiya had issued the threats during a protest and prayer gathering organised by the state government in hopes of a favorable outcome at the election tribunal in September 2023.
He had also pledged to cause chaos among the state’s residents, exceeding the hardships faced by those in neighboring states such as Kaduna and Zamfara.
He said if the tribunal judges ruled against his party, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the petition before it, they may pay with their lives.
“I am sending this message to the tribunal judges, any judge that allows himself to be used and collect bribes and pass judgment that is not right, we want to tell him he must choose between his life and the bribe money he collected.
Kibiya was sacked alongside Governor Abba’s Special Adviser on Youths, Yusuf Imam over a statement he also made against Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The governor condemned the utterances made by both officials then saying the statements did not represent the official position of the State Government under his leadership.
