Kano Hisbah commander, Sheikh Daurawa, resigns over Gov. Yusuf’s comments

The Commander General of Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, has resigned.

The Hisba CG announced his resignation in a two-minute fifty-three-second viral video, recorded on March 1st, 2024, in Kaduna where he is presently attending a retreat by the State Assembly.

Daurawa said he has tried his best to uphold the morality of the Kano people including TikTokers but to no avail.

He attributed his resignation to some comments made by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf regarding his work during the week.

Daurawa apologized to the governor over some actions the governor was not so comfortable with, noting that all his actions were in good faith.

Recently Hisbah operatives arrested a popular Tiktoker in Kano Murja Kunya over the spread of immorality on her page and was arraigned before a court that remanded her in prison.

However, her release before the adjourned date in court became controversial.

The release of Murja Kunya was alleged to have been influenced by forces within and outside the government.

Although the state government came out to deny any involvement in her release.

It could be recalled that on Thursday, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf during a gathering with Ulamas at Kano Government House criticized how Hisbah under the leadership of Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa handles their work on fighting immorality in the state.

Governor Yusuf had expressed dissatisfaction with how Hisbah’s ‘operation kau da badala’ was being carried out across the state.

Operation ‘Kau da Badala’ is Hisbah’s initiative aimed at fighting immorality and enforcing sanity in accordance with Islamic values, but the Governor said the modus operandi of the board needs to be looked into.

He said, “I saw a video that disrupted my peace. You parked cars and went to where males and females were doing unholy things. They were picked up and beaten with bamboo sticks while they took to their heels. They were being packed up inside the vehicle like animals. This, I think is a big mistake for you to hold an adult and throw him like a goat into a Hilux.

“Hisbah is a board that we take in high esteem and bring in God-fearing people that we know they can deliver given the people’s mandate in line with what is right.

“I want to call on the attention of agencies saddled with the responsibility of putting youth on the righteous paths, especially Hisbah.

“The meaning of establishing agencies like this is to do the right thing and also advise us and all stakeholders on the right thing to do.

“We want the right thing to be done, what if, God forbids someone gets injured on his spinal cord, he is finished. I saw a video where students’ rooms were raided, beaten, and thrown into the vehicle.” the Governor said.
