NCC reports restoration of voice, data services after undersea cable cuts

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) announced on Monday that voice and data services disrupted by undersea cable cuts have been successfully restored.
In a statement issued NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, stated, “We are pleased to inform that following the disruption on March 14, 2024, which affected data and voice services due to cuts in undersea fiber optics along the coasts of Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal, we are pleased to announce that services have now been restored to approximately 90% of their peak utilisation capacities.”

The commission revealed that operators affected by the cuts had managed to recover by utilizing alternative submarine cables, which were unaffected, allowing them to regain around 90% of their peak utilization capacities.
Mobile network operators provided assurances to the NCC that data and voice services would function optimally until full repairs on the undersea cables could be completed. They activated alternative connectivities to normalize the situation, ensuring that services continued without interruptions.
“We extend our appreciation to telecom consumers for their patience and understanding during the downtime caused by the undersea fibre cuts,” the statement said.
