Nine remaining abducted varsity students regain freedom
At least nine of the abducted students from the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State have reportedly been liberated, according to multiple sources from the institution.
The students, predominantly female, were taken from their off-campus residence in Sabon Gida Village on September 23, 2023, along with three male labourers.
Troops of the Nigerian Army had previously rescued 13 victims, including the labourers, within 72 hours of the abduction.
Confirming the recent development, a top leader of the school’s Student Union of Government (SUG) stated, “I heard nine were rescued, but the school has yet to officially disclose anything.”

The rescued students are said to have arrived in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and are currently undergoing medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The involvement of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, in the negotiation process leading to their release has been noted.
Despite the positive development, there has been no official statement from the institution, Zamfara State Government, or Nigerian Army at the time of this report. Further updates are expected shortly.
