Northern female entrepreneurs honoured by Turkish institute

The Yunus Emre Institute, in partnership with the Turkish Embassy, commemorated International Women’s Day 2024 by celebrating exceptional young northern women who have made remarkable strides in their respective fields.

The Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Hidayet Bayraktar, reiterated his excitement and recognition of International Women’s Day. He emphasized the pivotal role that women play in society—a view that was also expressed by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey.

Honorable recipients included Zainab B. Yau, founder and director of DemaRx; Aisha Shuaibu, President of SWA Sports; Habibah A. Waziri CEO of BGR Consulting; and Visual Artist Mariam Maigida. Musa Erbaş, coordinator at Yunus Emre Institute expressed profound respect for African women’s ever-changing narrative and struggle underscoring institute commitment towards cultural exchange and education.

Through presentations such as “Education and Entrepreneurship,” “Women’s Leadership Role in Education,” “Women in African Sports,” and “The Place of Women in Art,” recipients delved into critical issues surrounding gender equality and female empowerment.
