Northern State Governments Urged to Act: KACRAN appeals for livestock feed support

In a pressing plea, the Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) is calling on Northern State Governments to step up and provide essential livestock feed to Pastoralists as a crucial palliative measure.

Amid the Federal Government’s commendable allocation of fifty billion naira to the Pulaaku initiative, spearheaded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at bolstering the livestock sector, KACRAN has urgently appealed to Northern State Governments for immediate action.

This call aligns with the reappointment of dedicated members to the North East Development Commission’s Management Board, highlighting continuous efforts to rebuild areas impacted by Boko Haram.

Hon Khalil Mohd Bello, National President of KACRAN, stressed, “President Tinubu’s commitment to the livestock sector is evident, and we implore Northern State Governments to actively participate by procuring and distributing crucial animal feed to Pastoralists within their jurisdictions.”

Bello continued, “Our appeal is grounded not only in the interests of pastoralists but also in the broader context of national food security and economic stability. Livestock welfare is vital to our culture and economy, and we trust Northern State Governments will recognise this connection.”

Key Points:

1. President Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to supporting the livestock sector.

2. Reappointment of NEDC members as an indicator of the Federal Government’s intent to enhance herding practices.

3. KACRAN’s emphasis on the necessity to speak up for the silent livestock population.

4. Livestock’s entitlement to rights and privileges, paralleling those of humans.

5. Proposal to reallocate funds for workers’ palliatives to animal feed procurement.

KACRAN commends Yobe State SEMA for their 2022 initiative and encourages Northern Governments to secure and distribute critical feeds, including Wheat Bran/Offal, Feedlot/Compounded feed, Cotton Seed Cake, Soya Beans Cake, Palm Kernel Cake, Salt lick, and Molasses.

The association firmly believes that redirecting funds towards livestock feed procurement is a strategic move, ensuring equitable support for both Pastoralists and their livestock. KACRAN is confident that the Northern State Governments will respond with understanding and prompt action.

In conclusion, KACRAN trusts that cooperation and empathy will guide leaders to support this noble cause, emphasizing the profound connection between the prosperity of the livestock sector and the overall health of the nation.

The association believes that, through collective effort, a more secure and prosperous future can be created for all.
