Russian rocket successfully puts Iranian satellite into orbit
In a significant demonstration of collaboration between Moscow and Tehran, a Russian Soyuz rocket successfully launched an Iranian satellite into orbit from the Vostochny launch facility in Russia’s far east.
The launch, orchestrated by Russia’s state-run Roscosmos corporation, also carried 18 Russian satellites into orbit.
The Iranian satellite, weighing 110 kilograms (242 pounds), is equipped with three cameras designed for environmental, agricultural, and various imaging purposes.
Iran’s state TV reported that the satellite will orbit the North and South Poles, synchronized to maintain a fixed position relative to the Sun. After a system calibration, it is expected to become fully operational.
This successful launch follows Russia’s deployment of the Iranian Khayyam satellite in 2022, emphasizing the growing cooperation between the two nations in the realm of space exploration.
Iran’s Communication Minister, Isa Zarepour, highlighted that the country’s space program has achieved a total of 23 launches, including 12 during President Ebrahim Raisi’s administration.
