Yar’Adua takes over as Northern Senators’ Forum Chairman following Ningi’s suspension

Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the senator representing Katsina Central in the National Assembly, has been appointed as the new chairman of the Northern Senators’ Forum.

Yar’Adua, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was selected to lead the forum just two days after Senator Abdul Ningi was suspended.

Ningi, who represents Bauchi Central, raised concerns about the alleged padding of the 2024 budget by N3.7 trillion by the upper chamber.

While budget padding is not uncommon in Nigeria, this marks the first time a sitting senator, who played a role in approving the budget, has accused fellow lawmakers of such actions.

Ningi cited ongoing events in the National Assembly, as well as in the north and the country at large, as reasons for his resignation.

Additionally, the forum announced that Senator Tahir Mungono of Borno North will take over as the spokesperson, replacing Senator Sumaila Kawu. Kawu had been cautioned by the Senate to refrain from sharing posts that could incite unrest in the country.
