Youths protest as stray bullet from police kills married man
Tension gripped the Igueomo community situated along the Benin-Agbor Road in Edo State following a tragic incident involving a stray bullet believed to have been fired from a police firearm, resulting in the untimely death of a man in the vicinity.
The unfortunate event happened on Wednesday evening as the deceased, reportedly identified as a Hausa man, visited a Point of Sale (POS) operator to facilitate a N4000 transfer to his wife back in his village.
Reports indicate that the sequence of events unfolded when a confrontation ensued between some local troublemakers and law enforcement officers, prompting a rapid police response to apprehend the individuals involved.
In the chaos that ensued, the officers discharged their firearms in an attempt to intercept the fleeing suspects.

Tragically, one of the stray bullets struck the innocent victim as he sought refuge, leading to his immediate and tragic demise at the scene.
Angry youths in the area came out in large numbers, blocked the road in protest against the killing of the deceased, a source who witnessed the incident said.
“The irate youths who were armed with sticks and machetes, barricaded the road and ensured that no one have access to the either side of the road. A police vehicle that attempted to pass the road was vandalized,” the source said.
According to him, the incident forced many passengers to disembark from buses and trekked to their destinations.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chdi Nwabuzor, who confirmed the incident, said investigation was on to identify those involved in the operation.
