5 children suffocate to death after locking selves in abandoned car

Five children from three families have tragically locked themselves inside a stationary car, enduring a harrowing five-hour ordeal that ended in suffocation.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday evening in the Gurara Albishiri (Area 1) situated on Bida Road in Minna, Niger State, plunging the community into an abyss of sorrow and disbelief.

According to reports, the children had been engrossed in playful activities within a vast compound adjacent to their residences.

Unbeknownst to them, they wandered into an abandoned Honda Civic, a vehicle that had remained unused for approximately two years under the neglect of its owner.

Sources revealed that the children ignorantly trapped themselves inside the car around 11 a.m., while their frantic parents scoured the vicinity in search of them.

The grim discovery of their lifeless bodies within the confines of the vehicle struck at around 4 pm, leaving the community shattered.

Among the victims were three siblings, the sole offspring of their respective parents, alongside two other children from separate families, one of whom was linked to the owner of the abandoned car identified as Zahra (10), Aisha (7), Fati (5), and Isah (7), their innocent lives were tragically cut short, with the identity of the fifth victim remaining undisclosed.

Responding swiftly to the tragic scene, Aminu Ladan, the chairman of Chanchaga local government area, who is a nearby resident, extended his condolences to the grieving families, labeling the incident as deeply unfortunate.

Despite efforts to obtain a response from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Wasiu Abiodun, at the time of reporting, no official statement had been received.
