Eguma outlines strategy for Rivers United’s remaining fixtures

Rivers United’s head coach, Stanley Eguma, has unveiled the club’s approach to their outstanding fixtures as they navigate the remainder of the season.

With five games left on the calendar, these matches were postponed due to the club’s commitments in the CAF Confederation Cup.

“We will take the matches one after the other; every match is very important,” Eguma emphasized, underlining the significance of each encounter.

Acknowledging the team’s current position lower in the standings, Eguma expressed determination to climb upwards: “We know that our position is down the log, so we have to do something positive to get up there.”

He stressed the importance of maintaining focus and avoiding distractions among the players: “I just hope the boys don’t get distracted but remain focused until we get up there.”

Eguma highlighted the need for squad rotation and the infusion of fresh energy into the team: “All we want to do is get up there, it is very possible and we can’t accept a different story.”

Recognising the physical demands on the players, Eguma emphasized the importance of rest: “The players deserve some rest because they are human beings.”

In line with this, he emphasized the necessity of squad rotation to introduce fresh legs for added pace and strength.

Currently occupying the 13th position in the table with 40 points, Rivers United is poised for a crucial clash against Bayelsa United in a matchday 32 fixture at the Samson Siasia Stadium on Monday.

The upcoming encounters hold significant importance for the former NPFL champions as they strive to make a decisive push up the league standings.
