Iran discloses details of Israeli transit cargo confiscation
FARAJA’s head of Enforcement and Protection Units revealed that a significant cargo intercepted on April 15 at the Bazargan border crossing in Iran’s northwest contained over 22 metric tons of potassium nitrate, a chemical commonly used as a fertilizer in agricultural projects.
General Reza Baniasadifar identified the product bearing the commercial name of Haifa Group as originating from the “fake Zionist regime” and outlined that the seizure was conducted in accordance with Article 9 of Iran’s Export-Import Regulations, which forbids any commercial transactions with Israel.
Earlier this year, the Iranian parliament passed a law to strengthen regulations on the import and transit of goods produced by Israeli companies or their associates.

This legislation was prompted by Israel’s violent actions against Palestinians in Gaza.
The cargo, initially declared by a local company as fertilizers for transport to Uzbekistan, is currently under the scrutiny of judicial authorities who will determine the fate of the consignment as well as the vehicle transporting it.
This specific interception at Bazargan, a vital trade point with Turkey, marks the first instance of such a seizure occurring at land border crossings in Iran.
Notably, on April 13, members of Iran’s elite military unit, the IRGC, boarded an oil tanker belonging to an Israeli company. This action, taken almost two weeks after an Israeli assault on an Iranian consulate in Syria resulting in the deaths of senior IRGC military figures, was justified by Iranian authorities as a response to the vessel’s violation of international maritime regulations.
