Manchester United edges past coventry into FA cup final after dramatic battle
In a thrilling and dramatic encounter, Manchester United managed to scrape past Coventry City to secure a spot in the FA Cup final, albeit after squandering a three-goal lead. Erik ten Hag’s side ultimately triumphed in a tense penalty shootout, emerging victorious with a 4-2 win, with Rasmus Hojlund scoring the decisive spot kick.
The game was a rollercoaster ride for United, encapsulating the chaotic nature of their season.
Despite initially cruising to a 3-0 lead against their second-tier opponents, goals from Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire, and Bruno Fernandes, they found themselves in a nail-biting battle after Coventry mounted an impressive comeback.
Second-half strikes from Ellis Simms and Callum O’Hare fueled hope for Coventry, with Haji Wright leveling from the penalty spot in the 95th minute, completing a remarkable turnaround.
The Coventry faithful, clad in blue, rallied behind their team, chanting taunts aimed at Ten Hag as belief surged through the stands.

While United settled early and appeared dominant, Coventry fought back fiercely, capitalising on defensive lapses to claw their way back into the game.
Despite United’s early lead and moments of brilliance, including a goal from Marcus Rashford and a fine save from Bradley Collins, Coventry’s resilience and determination kept them in contention.
As the match unfolded, the tension mounted, with both sides pushing for victory. Substitute Victor Torp’s stinging shot forced a sharp save from United’s goalkeeper, Andre Onana, while Coventry thought they had clinched it in the dying moments, only to be denied by a VAR ruling.
Ultimately, it was United’s resolve that saw them through, with Hojlund’s decisive penalty securing their place in the final. While their journey to the final may have been fraught with ups and downs, United’s resilience and determination shone through, setting the stage for what promises to be an exhilarating FA Cup final.
