Many feared killed in Rivers tanker explosion (Pictures)
Several lives are feared lost in a horrific tanker explosion that occurred along the Eleme axis of the neglected East-West Road in Rivers State.
The incident, which took place on Friday night, has left a trail of destruction and devastation in its wake.
According to reports, “the tragedy unfolded when a tanker carrying petroleum products caught fire after colliding with another heavy-duty vehicle on the deteriorating road. The resulting explosion engulfed multiple vehicles, trapping occupants who were unable to escape the rapidly spreading flames”.
“Videos and witness accounts shared on social media depict a scene of chaos and despair, with up to 11 vehicles, including trucks, consumed by the inferno. Witnesses lamented the lack of prompt emergency response and highlighted the extensive damage caused by the blaze”.
“Individuals caught in the tragic event recounted heartbreaking stories of losses incurred, including goods worth millions of naira and vehicles transporting passengers and staff.”

The full extent of the damage and the number of casualties are still being assessed by authorities, with emergency officials expected to provide more information in due course.
