The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has restated its resolve to champion gender equality in its decision-making processes, marking a significant step in combating gender discrimination and violence.

During a capacity-building workshop on gender inclusivity, jointly organised by the World Customs Organisation (WCO) and the NCS in Abuja on Monday, April 22, 2024, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, reaffirmed the commitment to nurturing a gender-inclusive atmosphere within the service.

Acting on behalf of the CGC, Caroline Niagwan, stressed the importance of establishing clear policies and procedures to address gender discrimination, harassment, and biases within the NCS.

“Our goal is to cultivate a workplace where every individual, irrespective of gender, has equal opportunities to thrive and contribute to the service’s success,” expressed the CGC. “We are resolute in tackling gender discrimination, harassment, and biases within our organization, and we are dedicated to ensuring that our policies and actions align with this mission.”

The workshop convened customs officials, gender experts, and stakeholders to deliberate on strategies for fostering gender inclusivity and combatting gender-based violence in the workplace.

With this reaffirmation of commitment, the NCS underscores its determination to establish a more inclusive and equitable work environment, enabling all employees to flourish and realise their fullest potential.
