Royal Visit: Prince Harry, Meghan Markle to visit Nigeria in May

The Duke of Duchess, Prince Harry, and his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, are preparing for a visit to Nigeria in May.

In a statement released on Monday, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information of the Defence Headquarters, revealed that during their time in the country, the royal couple will be meeting with service members and engaging in a variety of cultural activities.

Prince Harry is known for founding the Invictus Games, an international multi-sporting event that provides a recovery pathway for wounded, injured, and sick service men and women from around the world.

This initiative not only aims to support the rehabilitation of these individuals but also raises awareness and recognition in society for their sacrifices.

The Invictus Games has seen significant growth, with around 500 participants from 21 nations participating in the last event. Nigeria, which made a mark with gold and bronze medals during its debut appearance last year, continues to show its support for the Invictus Games and the principles it stands for.

“The visit is to consolidate Nigeria’s stronghold at the game, and the possibility of hosting the event in later years,” the statement said in part, adding that the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, who was in Germany for last year’s event, had accepted to host the games when granted to Nigeria.
