Tragedy Strikes Mowe Market: Mother, son, another electrocuted in electric spark incident
An unfortunate incident occurred at Mowe market in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, as it was reported that a mother, her son, and another individual were electrocuted.
The incident took place on Monday after an electric spark erupted in the market, following the restoration of power by the electricity distribution company a few hours after a Sunday rainstorm.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the electric shock originated from the step-down transformer on an electrical pole near the shop where the tragic event unfolded, as the shop owners were commencing their daily sales.
According to witnesses, a female trader, along with her son and another person, met their untimely demise in the market, while four others sustained injuries.

Director of Information of Obafemi Owode Local Government, Segun Soneye, confirmed the incident, mentioning that the woman had been incinerated.
Attributing the incident to the presence of iron shops under the powerline, Soneye stated that the Council Chairman, Lanre Ogunsola, visited the affected shop owners to express condolences and gave a seven-day deadline to evacuate the makeshift shops under the high-tension powerline to prevent future occurrences.
Moreover, the affected victims receiving treatment at Mowe Health Post were assured of quality medical care, with all expenses catered for by the government.
Police Spokesman, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating that Ujuwa Okechukwu, the mother, had passed away, while the injured individuals were receiving medical attention at Babcock University Teaching Hospital.
