Delta SDP Governorship candidate, Kenneth Gbagi, passes away at 62

Kenneth Gbagi, the former Minister of Education and governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the March 2023 elections in Delta State, has passed away at the age of 62.

His demise was confirmed in a statement released by his family and signed by his eldest son, Emuoboh Gbagi, on Saturday, May 4, 2024.

The statement reads, “It is with profound sadness but gratitude to God that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, husband, and brother Olorogun Kenneth Omemavwa Gbagi, former minister of education, departed this life on the 4th of May 2024 at the age of 62.”

“We take comfort in the fond memories of his life, his achievements, and the impact he made on the lives of countless individuals and communities,” it continued.

Kenneth Gbagi had contested for the governorship position in Delta State under the platform of the SDP in the March 2023 elections. Although he clinched the SDP governorship ticket, he was unsuccessful in his bid for the governorship seat, losing to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Before his foray into politics, Kenneth Gbagi served as the Minister of State for Education during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Gbagi’s passing marks the end of a distinguished career in public service and politics, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service to the people of Delta State.

The news of his demise has elicited expressions of condolences from various quarters, as colleagues, friends, and well-wishers mourn the loss of a prominent figure in Nigerian politics.
