Borno gov’t receives 386 individuals rescued from Sambisa Forest

The Nigerian Military, on Monday, announced that it has transferred 386 individuals saved from Sambisa Forest a decade after their kidnapping by Boko Haram insurgents to the Borno State Government.
Transferring the rescued individuals to the Borno State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, the Commander of Operation Hadin Kai Joint Task Force North-East, Maj. Gen. Shuaibu Waidi stated that the transfer was another important achievement by the command.
He mentioned that for the past ten days, a combination of Army, Air Force, Navy, and other security forces have been conducting clearance operations in Sambisa Forest, and that the 386 rescued individuals were discovered in Sambisa Forest.
Represented by the Deputy Theatre Commander, Maj. Gen. Kenneth Chibu, the Theatre Commander, said, “This is a demonstration of the professionalism exhibited by the Joint Task Force, which does not involve innocent civilians in combat.
“The individuals you see here were kept in the forest against their will. What is happening here is a coordinated effort with the International Committee of Red Cross, NGOs based in Borno, and the state government.
“When we rescue individuals like this, we turn them over to the government for support and reintegration.”
He praised the Borno State Government for its role during the operations that led to the success and expressed gratitude to the Theatre Commander and troops for rescuing the victims.
Similarly, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, who was represented by the Director of Social Welfare, Asabe Mohammed, lauded the security agents for the feat.
One of the rescued individuals, Baba Grema, recounted how the insurgents attacked their community, which is close to Sambisa Forest, and took them to the forest where they spent 12 years.
