Abuja metro rail to offer free rides for 2 months

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, shared that the Abuja Light Rail will provide complimentary rides for two months following its official launch on Monday, the 27th of May, 2024.

This announcement was made during the Ministerial Sectoral Update celebrating the first year of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, held at the Radio House in Abuja on Thursday.

Wike revealed that President Bola Tinubu would inaugurate the Metro rail project for commercial operations on Monday and encouraged residents to utilize the Metro rails starting on Tuesday, the 28th of May.

The initiative aims to enhance the ease of commuting for residents, and there is a possibility that the President may extend the period of free rides up to six months.

Furthermore, the FCT Administration plans to kick off the construction of 10,000 affordable housing units named the Renewed Hope City in the coming year, 2025.

Today, briefings will also be provided by the Minister of Youth Development, Jamilo Bio Ibrahim, and the Minister of Transportation, Sa’Idu Ahmed Alkali.
