Russia’s Putin ready to halt Ukraine war on one key condition

Russian President Vladimir Putin is prepared to cease hostilities in Ukraine based on the existing battlefield lines, according to sources close to the Kremlin.

This potential ceasefire, which aligns with the current frontlines, has been framed as a frustration towards what Putin perceives as Western interference in negotiations and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s refusal to engage in talks.

Putin expressed a willingness to resume peace talks, emphasizing that negotiations should reflect “the realities on the ground.” However, Ukrainian officials, including Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak, dismissed Putin’s overtures as deceptive tactics aimed at undermining Ukraine’s proposed peace summit in Switzerland next month.

The conflict, Europe’s largest since World War II, has resulted in significant casualties and severe economic sanctions on Russia. Despite recent Russian territorial gains, the prospect of a ceasefire remains remote, with both sides fearing the other might use it to regroup.

Putin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, confirmed that Russia has no plans for another mobilization, instead opting to recruit volunteer contractors. Meanwhile, the U.S. and European allies continue to support Ukraine with substantial military aid.

The situation remains tense, with no clear resolution in sight as both Russia and Ukraine stand firm on their respective conditions for peace.
