Customs condemns viral confrontation between officers, VIO, launches investigation (Video)
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has expressed deep concern and empathy over a viral video showing some of its officers in a confrontation with Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) at the AYA Roundabout, Abuja VIO Office on Friday, May 24, 2024.
According to a statement released by the NCS, the officers involved in the incident are attached to the Customs Mechanical Unit in Karu Barracks, Abuja, and their actions have been condemned as “self-motivated” and “unprofessional”.
The Service has dissociated itself from the behavior of the officers and has launched a thorough investigation into the incident.
The NCS emphasized that the incident contradicts its values and operational standards, which prioritize collaboration with sister security agencies and stakeholders to ensure the safety and security of Nigerians and their properties.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has made it clear that such behavior will not be tolerated and that the Service remains committed to its mission to generate revenue, facilitate trade, and suppress smuggling to support a robust and secure economy for all Nigerians.

The investigation is ongoing, and appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken to prevent future occurrences.
