40 district heads, council members pledge loyalty to Emir Sanusi

On Sunday, the 16th Fulani Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, presided over his first emirate council meeting with district heads and senior traditional council members at the Gidan Rumfa palace.

During this maiden edition of the expanded council meeting, which followed his reinstatement on Friday by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Sanusi officially assumed his responsibilities as the Emir of Kano. Forty district heads and senior council members renewed their allegiance to him.

Notable attendees included the five kingmakers: Madaki, Wali, Makama, Sarkin Bai, and Sarkin Dawaki Mai Tuta. Other prominent figures, such as Waziri, Turaki, Sarkin Shanu, and many more, also paid homage to Emir Sanusi by prostrating themselves before him, signifying their endorsement of his position.

Upon taking up residence in the palace, Sanusi met with various interest groups, including vigilantes, women organisations, private individuals, and well-wishers, all gathered to show their respect and loyalty.

Earlier, Emir Sanusi was welcomed with admiration and jubilation, emerging in grand style on a white royal horse from his inner palace at Gidan Rumfa, acknowledging the warm greetings from his subjects.

Emir Sanusi reclaimed his position following the assent of the repealed law by Governor Abba Yusuf.

The new law overruled the 2019 version that had divided the Kano emirate into five distinct regions.
