Bandits strike again, claiming 24 lives in Katsina village

At least twenty- four individuals have lost their lives and several others sustained injuries in a recent bandit attack on Unguwar Sarkin Noma village in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The victims, primarily vigilante members, reportedly confronted the bandits during the attack, resulting in casualties on their side.

According to local security officials, the attack, which lasted for about an hour, targeted four villages—Unguwar Sarkin Noma, Gangara, Tafi, and Kore.

The assailants, allegedly seeking retaliation for military actions against their hideouts, descended on the villages, firing indiscriminately to intimidate residents.

Faruq Dalhatu, Chairman of Sabuwa Local Government Council, confirmed that twenty-three of the deceased were laid to rest according to Islamic rites, with the final victim buried after succumbing to injuries in the hospital.

While the local authorities swiftly informed security agencies about the impending attack, the response was not enough to prevent the bandit raid. The lack of a police statement regarding the incident adds to the urgency of the situation, highlighting the vulnerability of communities in Katsina State to such attacks.

Sabuwa is identified as one of the eight most susceptible frontline Local Government Areas in Katsina State, where bandit activities are alarmingly frequent.

As investigations continue into this latest tragedy, the need for enhanced security measures and swift responses to threats remains paramount in safeguarding the lives and properties of citizens in the region.
