Customs condemns officer’s killing, vows justice

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has strongly denounced violent acts directed at its officers, particularly condemning the recent brutal attack resulting in the tragic loss of Customs Assistant II Auwal Haruna at the Gamji Makaho checkpoint in the Dankama area of Katsina State on April 17, 2024.

In a press statement released on Wednesday, National Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs Abbdullahi Maiwada, conveyed the heartfelt condolences of Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, to the family and colleagues of CA II Auwal Haruna.

“The NCS, in collaboration with other security agencies, is actively pursuing the apprehension of the perpetrators of this reprehensible act to ensure they face the full weight of the law”.

CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi reiterated that “violence against NCS officers is intolerable, affirming the commitment to pursue justice and prioritise the safety of personnel and border security.”

Under the leadership of CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, “the NCS reaffirms its unwavering dedication to combat smuggling and cross-border crimes, steadfastly upholding the law and safeguarding the interests of the Nigerian people”.

Intelligence suggests that certain members of the community may be harboring suspected accomplices involved in this crime. The NCS urges these individuals to prioritise patriotism and collaborate with law enforcement agencies to eliminate criminal elements and ensure justice prevails.

The NCS calls upon the public to unite against these audacious criminals, urging vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious activities to the nearest customs formation.

Together, a safer environment for officers and a more secure nation can be achieved.
