Dethroned Kano Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, defies order, moves into Nasarawa palace

The deposed Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has returned to Kano and taken up residence in the Nasarawa palace of the Emirate, despite a 48-hour ultimatum from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to vacate the palace and hand over to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The Governor had earlier announced the reinstatement of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, who was deposed in 2020.

Ado Bayero’s return to Kano was met with a warm welcome from his supporters, and he subsequently moved into the mini-palace in Nassarawa, sparking confusion.

Meanwhile, Sanusi II has taken over the Gidan Rumfa palace, and both palaces are now under heavy security cover.

The development comes after the Governor directed the arrest of Ado Bayero, who appears to be defying the order. The situation is unfolding, with reports of soldiers providing backup for the deposed Emir.

The Kano Emirate is witnessing a complex power tussle, with multiple factions vying for control.
