Germany collaborates with Nigeria to address climate change

German Ambassador to Nigeria, Annett Gunther has announced a partnership between Germany and Nigeria to tackle climate change and its related challenges.

Speaking to journalists on Monday in Abuja, Gunther disclosed the urgent need for collective action to address the root causes of climate issues, highlighting decarbonization and zero emissions as key solutions.

Gunther praised Nigeria’s energy transition plan, which aimed to achieve zero emissions by 2060, and expressed Germany’s interest in supporting its implementation.

To facilitate this, the German-Nigerian Hydrogen Diplomacy Office has been established, bringing together experts and stakeholders in renewable energy, particularly hydrogen, to discuss and drive progress.

The Ambassador also explained the impact of unpredictable weather patterns on agriculture, citing drought-resilient crop development programs as part of Germany’s development cooperation efforts.

Furthermore, Gunther acknowledged the effects of climate change on income sources and arable land, revealing plans to address these issues and mediate conflicts between communities.
