Google enhances AI summaries following embarrassing search result errors
Google announced on Friday that it is taking immediate steps to improve AI-generated search result summaries after facing public ridicule over mistakes such as incorrectly identifying Barack Obama as the first Muslim US president.
Users on social media highlighted several bizarre errors from the “AI Overview” feature, prompting Google to respond.
A spokesperson for Google acknowledged the issues, stating that many erroneous examples were either rare queries or could not be reproduced.
Google is addressing these issues under its content policies and implementing broader system improvements, some of which are already in place.

Most AI Overviews are reliable, and the technology includes safeguards to prevent harmful content, according to Google.
The company recently introduced AI-generated answers in its search results in the US, with plans to expand globally.
This move comes amid increasing competition from AI-driven search engines like Perplexity and rumors of OpenAI developing its own search tool.
