IPOB Issues Ultimatum to EEDC: Provide adequate electricity or vacate Southeast region
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a stern warning to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), demanding improved power supply in the southeast region or face expulsion.
In a statement by IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group accused EEDC of consistently failing to deliver adequate electricity to the southeast, despite payments made by residents for services not rendered.
The statement highlighted IPOB’s dissatisfaction with the current state of power supply, emphasizing the need for EEDC to either step up its service delivery or relinquish its operations in the region to more reliable companies.
According to IPOB, the Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with EEDC in 2023, promising 24-hour electricity supply to the state. However, a year later, the state remains in darkness, with EEDC failing to provide even six hours of steady power daily.

The group emphasized the importance of consistent electricity supply for economic activities and industrialization in the southeast, expressing concern that EEDC’s poor performance could hinder progress in the region.
IPOB warned that if EEDC continues to deliver substandard service, the group would take action to shut down EEDC offices in the southeast.
The ultimatum underscores the frustration felt by residents over the lack of reliable electricity supply and the urgent need for improvement in service delivery by utility companies operating in the region.
