Labour eyes N100,000 minimum wage as NEC meets monday
Organised Labour has stated that it will not accept any minimum wage less than N100,000 as negotiations with the Federal Government intensify.
According to sources from the Trade Union Congress and Nigeria Labour Congress, the government and private sector should not expect labour to accept anything less than a six-digit offer.
The unions have expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s negotiation process, describing the shift from N48,000 to N57,000 as too meagre.
They pointed out that President Bola Tinubu had promised a living wage, which N57,000 does not represent.

Labour leaders are set to meet on Monday to prepare for the Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage meeting on Wednesday.
The Federal Government recently increased its offer from N48,000 to N54,000, but labour rejected this proposal.
Labour leaders have expressed disappointment that state governors did not attend the meeting, and the private sector’s offer of N54,000 is seen as inadequate.
Organised Labour has reiterated its May 31 deadline for the implementation of the new minimum wage.
The National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, has insisted on N615,000 as the minimum wage, citing the current economic situation and the needs of an average Nigerian family of six.
Labour leaders have stated that anything less than a six-figure minimum wage would be rejected, and they are willing to go on strike if the government fails to meet their demands.
